I was first introduced to Ashley Winstead via the book club at C2E2, when we read Midnight Is the Darkest Hour, which I loved. I also read one of her romance books ahead of that weekend to prepare to interview her, and I enjoyed how she handled both genres. Fast forward to now, and Ashley is diving into more general fiction with The Future Saints.
The Future Saints [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] is a dual-POV story from Hannah, the frontwoman of a struggling band, and Theo, the rising star at her record label who is stepping in as their new manager. Hannah and The Future Saints play a new song on the night Theo shows up to meet them and take over, but she’s a wee bit intoxicated. The song goes viral, and Theo believes he can get them back on track.
I absolutely devoured this book. It’s an emotional journey through grief, addiction, and creativity, mixed with a little romance. Ashley writes about these complex issues so beautifully in such raw and gritty ways, while not letting hope slip through their fingers.
For me, this brought the vibes of Daisy Jones and The Six into a modern era, and honestly, I liked this better. I said what I said and I’m sticking to it. This was such a delightful book, and I’m so glad I picked it up.
