Book Review: “The Romance Revival”

It’s been a minute since Christina Lauren released a new book, so to say I was eager to get my hands on a copy is probably an understatement. I was super lucky to be selected for BookCon’s book club for this book, which landed me an early copy and a spot hearing from CLo about writing it.

The Romance Revival [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] centers on a fun romance/scifi premise. Emery is a doctor at a top secret lab but her husband doesn’t know it. All he knows is that they are growing apart and it might be time to cut ties and move on.

But when Luca is involved in an accident, Emery is first to respond. Due to some workplace drama, she happens to have the serum she’s been working on in her car… a serum that can help bring someone back to life after severe injury. With Luca brought back from death without his memories, Emery gets a second chance at love with her husband…. if only she can stop the job from getting in the way again.

This premise is so fun and fits perfectly with the title, as much as CLo wanted their original title more. The Romance Revival is a little heavier of a read than I feel like CLo usually give us. You don’t often see stories where the couple is already married and gets to fall in love again. But that history brings complications and complexities that I really enjoyed getting to see play out.

Bonus: I love when Lauren gets to mix in her love of science with the story, especially when it’s ficticious science that brings a fun ‘what if’ to mind.

The only downside was I figured out a key part far too early, which brings my rating down one star.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
