In getting ready for Love Y’all Book Festival, I saw that Kasie West was attending, and since I had a copy of her adult debut, I added it to the TBR, and I’m so glad I did. This was my first Kasie West book and it won’t be my last.
We Met Like This [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] starts with an unfortunate first date that ends up… less unfortunate. Despite clicking on the physical, Margot and Oliver decide they aren’t working, but they keep matching on the dating apps over the years. They reconnect, but Margot loses her job as a literary agent’s assistant, and he’s there to help her figure out her next steps in life, all while her sister is judging and pressuring her to get her life together.
This was such a fun read with so much drama. Things really ramp up as the story unfolds and connections start coming to light. Margot just wants a romcom worthy meet cute and has a hard time getting past that and their past to really see Oliver as an option for her. But the dramaaaaaaa to get there is delightfully scandalous. I don’t want to say too much since it might ruin the plot if you haven’t read it yet.
I will say, this cover does the book a major disservice. It doesn’t match the vibe at all. The book is fun, light, and steamy, but the cover is giving lit fic old ladies in France or something. I dunno. I am glad I gave it a chance despite the cover.
