Dr. Travis Langley and “Stranger Things Psychology: Life Upside Down”

If you haven’t figured out that I’m a big nerd yet, this will surely paint that picture for you. I’m 100% okay with that.

I first learned of Dr. Travis Langley while attending my first San Diego Comic Con. He was on a psychology of cult TV shows panel with an author who worked on a book with cast members of Supernatural, so obviously I had to check it out. I’ve since interviewed Dr. Langley twice for news stories and loved every nerdy minute of it. So when he asked if I wanted to check out his newest book, Stranger Things Psychology: Life Upside Down [Buy Bookshop Amazon], it was a no brainer.

This book is basically a collection of short psychology papers from researchers, professors, and therapists. They each tackle a topic using examples from Stranger Things. Some of the topics covered include: bullying, toxic masculinity, and the impacts of a missing person.

This book is great for helping break down psychology topics in a fun way. There are a lot of the same terms you’d hear in a classroom, but just surrounded by Dungeons and Dragons references. It’s fun! There’s even a chapter exploring how the first episodes of each season are similar to first therapy sessions.

This book is great for anyone who is interested in psychology, wants to learn more about psychology in a fun way, or is really into Stranger Things and has theories about the show’s potential hidden meanings.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

And if you enjoy this kind of thing, Dr. Langley is behind an entire series of media-based psychology books and they are fascinating. He has Spider-man Psychology [Buy Bookshop Amazon] coming later this year.
