Chilling Summer: Lindsay Cameron Gives Us “Just One Look”

When Caroline Kepnes describes a novel with a “Yum”, you know it’s going right to the top of the TBR pile. Fittingly so, because Just One Look by Lindsay Cameron has some definite You vibes… if Joe was a woman and less inclined to murder.

Just One Look introduces us to a disgraced lawyer named Cassie who is starting a new job as a temp at a firm. She’s banished to the “bunker” of a basement to read though hundreds of documents and emails every day, deciding if they are relevant to a case project or not. Cassie is packed in a small room with 17 people and a strict schedule, but hey, it’s something to keep her fed and limit the intense loneliness she feels, right?

But Cassie’s world flips upside down when her files includes a personal email between one partner and his wife. Cassie becomes obsessed with Forest and Annabelle Watts and learning everything she possibly can about their lives. Like, there is a full blown binder of stalker notes. The girl is in deep!

So deep, she decides she must make Forest hers. If only the alcohol and past traumas didn’t swirl together into a massive mess.

Just One Look is such a fun, twisty psychological ride. It’s a fascinating look through the eyes of a blooming stalker in the sticky and juicy legal world. This one is definitely worth a read this summer.
