Book Review: “Bride” by Ali Hazelwood

At this point in Ali Hazelwood‘s writing career, we know exactly what we are getting from her books. When I saw she was putting out a paranormal romance, I was highly curious about how she was breaking her usual mold and if we’d see any new tropes in her mix. The cover of Bride is not my favorite thing we’ve seen from Ali, so I went into this book cautiously optimistic.

Bride [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] follows Misery on her marriage of convenience journey. Misery is the daughter of the most powerful vampire councilman in their region and she’s kinda offered up to the alpha of the werewolves to continue to keep peace. Misery agrees to the marriage for her own reasons, which stem from a childhood spent among humans as a political game piece. She’s kinda got a sacrificial loner vibe and daddy issues.

Lowe, on the other hand, is super intense from the start at the wedding. He’s got his own secrets going on and isn’t quite pleased with Misery poking around all the time. He’s also way more into her than he’s letting on.

If you’ve read any Ali Hazelwood books, then you know to expect enemies-to-lovers, small girl/big guy, and probably an only one bed situation. We definitely get all of those in Bride. We’re also used to her stories being centered on a female main character in the STEM space, which at first glance, you wouldn’t think we’d get from a paranormal romance, but you’d be incorrect. Misery knows some tech-y things that come in quite handy for some situations throughout the story. So basically, it’s a typical Ali Hazelwood story, just with vampires and werewolves.

That being said, it’s still hella fun. It’s a bit ridiculous and wacky, but it’s a good time. I flew through this so fast!

It feels Jacob-coded for all my fellow Twilight [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] girlies, but Ali told me she’s actually Team Edward. If you loved Twilight as a teen, then this is the spicy version you’ve been waiting for. I mean, there is knotting, and if you don’t know what that is, don’t Google it at work. Incognito browser that ish. You’re welcome.

Definitely add this to your TBR if you’re here for a good time.
