Review: “Belladonna” by Adalyn Grace

I’ve heard so much about Belladonna by Adalyn Grace that I could not resist being part of the tour for the paperback edition of this book through TBR and Beyond Tours. It was perfect timing since she was going to be at San Diego Comic Con and I could get it signed, as one does.

Belladonna [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] is about Signa and her seemingly terrible luck. Everyone but her died at a party when she was young, so she’s been bounced around from home to home all her life. Everywhere she goes, they are more interested in her inheritance than her well-being and someone ends up dead. Signa decides to eat some poisonous belladonna berries, but instead of dying, she ends up meeting Death himself and finding out that they have a powerful connection.

There’s also a bit of mystery going on in this story. Signa moves in with her last remaining relatives, but the wife of the family died from a mysterious disease that’s now affecting the daughter. Signa suspects things aren’t as they seem and decides to investigate, with a little help from Death here and there.

I feel like if I had read this at a different time, I might have liked it more. There wasn’t anything terribly wrong about it, but it didn’t suck me in the way I want a four or five-star book to capture my attention. That could’ve been because I simply had too much on my plate at the time or that it’s just not my vibe. I enjoyed some parts more than others, but just didn’t really connect with it. I still plan to read Foxglove [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] once it’s out in the world.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

  1. I’ve been seeing the posts for this because of the tour. The more I read about it, the more invested I become. I’m in love with this cover. I knew this book was dark but didn’t realize she meets death. I need to get my hands on it. (These tours really are working lol)
