Helena Hunting’s “Starry-Eyed Love”

As we have previously established here on Literaryhypewoman, I don’t always pay attention when picking my next read. This is not really an exception, but it’s a different version of it for once.

I picked up Starry-Eyed Love by Helena Hunting because the fine folks over at St. Martin’s Press sent me a digital copy for review. I didn’t look into it at all. Just went for it. I was pleasantly surprised to find it’s the sequel to When Sparks Fly, which I actually read this time! Miracle! I hadn’t even realized there was a sequel coming, so that made me very happy.

(Full disclosure, I thought the name of the first one didn’t make sense when I read it. It took me until half-way through the second book to realize where the first one’s title came from. You’re welcome for that laugh at my expense.)

Anyways… Starry-Eyed Love picks up a while after When Sparks Fly. Avery and Declan are planning their wedding, and now, we’re inside her sister London’s head. London gets asked out at a bar, but lies and says she’s in a relationship. A few months pass and she’s presenting their family-owned event hotel to a big company looking to create some partnerships, and in walks a cleaned up version of the guy from the bar… who just so happens to own the company. But, now the problem is, she and Jackson have a work relationship in the middle.

London is also struggling with being overwhelmed by the work she does at the hotel. She can get through the business stuff, but it doesn’t come naturally. She and Harley really want to hire more help, but Avery is blocking that from happening, so the tension and stress are only getting worse… and so is the romantic tension with Jackson. They are both battling to keep things cool and it’s not going well.

I enjoyed Starry-Eyed Love a bit more than the first one (sorry not sorry, Avery is a bit annoying in her control freak tendencies), but it’s still not my favorite series. It’s a cute and enjoyable easy read, but I’m not obsessed with it and I can’t put my finger on why. Will I continue on whenever Harley’s book comes out? You bet your britches. I’m invested now.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
