Christina Lauren Give Us “Something Wilder”

I love me some Christina Lauren any day, so I am always pumped for a new release from those ladies. I’m not a big western fan, so I was a little skeptical about how much I’d like Something Wilder.

Y’ALL.

It’s so much more entertaining than I expected and I am here for it. Even the author’s note was a delight to read. (Don’t skip it!)

Something Wilder is the story or Lily and Leo. The book starts out with the early days of their romance, when everything is going well. Lily is preparing to take over the ranch for her father and Leo is staying with her. Then we jump ahead ten years and find they aren’t together and haven’t talked since then.

Lily is running a wilderness adventure company, where she and Nicole take people into a national park for camping and a fake treasure hunt. Little does she know, the group she’s about to spend a week with in the middle of nowhere with Leo and a group of his friends.

To his credit, Leo doesn’t know either. It’s part of a tradition with his friends where one plans a surprise trip and only gives the others a packing list.

But that’s pretty much all I’m going to say about the plot because there are some TWISTS in there. Like, I was furious that I had to go back to work after one in the middle of the book, and I definitely skipped sleep to finish the last third. I was hooked.

Something Wilder is not your normal Christina Lauren novel. This one feels like a primarily adventurous treasure hunt that has a second chance romance going on, instead of a romance where they go on an adventure. While that’s not what I was expecting from them, it was still highly enjoyable. They wanted to do something cinematic and I’m hoping it does become a movie at some point down the road.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
