Dia Wall Was “The Unhappiest One”

If you’ve ever felt like you were the most miserable person in a room despite having the life you’d dreamed of, then this book is for you. In The Unhappiest One, Dia Wall shares her story of overcoming some of life’s hidden struggles.

If you haven’t heard of Dia before, allow me to introduce you. She’s currently the evening news anchor at KSHB in Kansas City, where we worked together a few years back. She started as one of my morning reporters and worked her way up to the main anchor chair, where she is a fierce and fun breath of fresh air. Trust me, I’ve tried to get many anchors to dance on TV and she’s done it spontaneously on multiple occasions, even getting others in on it. That’s the kind of infectiously joyful and fun person she is now.

But, as you’ll learn in this book, it wasn’t always that way.

Dia opens up about some of the challenges she’s faced since starting her journalism career and how they have affected her personally. She also shares about private struggles that she faced at home, including in with her husband and children.

The Unhappiest One is beautifully written. I’d expect nothing less from a storyteller like Dia. Dia’s voice absolutely shines through the pages. I could hear her in my head as I read it. If you’ve never heard her before, look up a couple of her stories on YouTube because it will make the experience that much richer. Her laugh is contagious, y’all.

I usually mention something I would have done differently or didn’t like when I write reviews, so in the interest of fairness, I do have a bit of a critique. I wanted more. This is a pretty short book, which can easily be read in a single day. There were some stories in here that easily could have been explored in a more nitty gritty fashion instead of a ‘30,000 feet perspective’. I think more of those details could help people who are struggling with those same issues. However, I respect Dia’s decision to focus on the positives and overcoming the challenges instead of the negativity like so many of us tend to do in tough situations.
