This is the first installment of a little series I’m going to call “Chilling Summer” because there are some hot thrillers on the way over the next couple months and I am excited to tell you about them as I make my way through the pile.
Ok, friends. Mary Kubica’s new thriller needs to shoot up to the top of your TBR piles. Local Woman Missing is a ride that kept me up reading until 2:30 a.m. for the first time in a long time.
The prologue shares the moments leading up to one woman’s disappearance, but the first 50 or so pages beyond that are intensely gripping. Kubica gives the reader the perspective of a kidnapped girl who has been living in a dark basement for an unknown time. Intense.
Yes, those are two different people. There are multiple women missing in this twisty novel. Kubica writes from several different characters’ perspectives and timelines. My advice is to pay attention to those names and times at the beginning of each chapter. I figured out part of the puzzle early on, but got another part very wrong because I mixed up a couple characters.
Whether you figure it out early or not, Local Woman Missing is such a wild ride with so many complicated characters. I won’t say much about this one because I don’t want to spoil it for you. I loved it and I hope you do too. Grab your copy here and tell me when you figured it out/ what tipped you off.
