Book Review: “Beth is Dead” by Katie Bernet

Growing up, one of my favorite books was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. Yes, I was such a Jo, so don’t act surprised. Now, as an adult, I love a good murder story, so when I heard a book was blending the two, I was intrigued and excited.

Beth Is Dead [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] is a multi-POV/multi-timeline story from the March sisters. We get snippets from each of the four girls, leading up to and after the death of Beth March. She’s found bleeding in the snow after a New Year’s party, but there are plenty of suspects to investigate, including in her family.

One of the key factors in the story is that their father wrote a book called Little Women, which pulls heavily on their lives and personal moments. There’s public outrage to the book because he did it without their permission. The book also includes Beth dying, so the masses are kinda upset that her father opted to kill her off for the plot.

Overall, this was such a fun read. I loved the little touches of the classic story and how it’s blended into the mystery of it all. There are so many red herrings and hints that it made the story a perpetual guessing game, and I want to know how the author kept track of it all. A few places dragged a little bit and left em spacing out, but overall, it was a good time.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
