Book Review: “Matchmaking For Psychopaths” by Tasha Coryell

Sometimes, I can convince my husband to listen to a novel with me on a road trip. He’s not a big fiction guy, but he does like to keep me happy, so occasionally, he lets me have my way and ends up enjoying himself too. This is one of those times. We needed something to listen to, and I’d been meaning to read my copy of Matchmaking For Psychopaths, so when I saw it was available from the library, he agreed.

Matchmaking For Psychopaths [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] is one wild tale. Our main character, Alex, goes to her birthday dinner to find that her fiance has been cheating on her with her best friend. Following the breakup, she goes to get drunk and ends up letting it slip what she does for a living: she’s a matchmaker specifically for psychopaths who may or may not know they are psychopaths. She is one part of a matchmaking service team and gets the clients after the quiz sorts them out. So, imagine Alex’s shock to see the guy she told what she does show up at the office looking for a match, but the specific match he wants is her.

Meanwhile, Alex is dealing with some other issues at home. Namely, her brand new ex turns up dead and body parts may or may not be turning up at her home. With things in chaos, she breaks yet another rule and tries to befriend a client… with methods one might call light stalking. Oops?

This book is absolutely wild. We had such a great time listening to it. I love watching my husband make faces when something in the story surprises or delights him, which happened repeatedly throughout. The only reason I marked it down a star is because I figured out most of the mystery at 62% and the rest a couple chapters later. That earned me a fist bump from the husband when it was all revealed.

I’m thoroughly enjoying seeing more books blending romance and mystery togther, and this is no exception. If you’re up for some bloody fun, this might be just the book for you.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
