It’s long been established that I love Tessa Bailey and most of her books (y’all know I’m honest…), so it should come as no surprise that I grabbed the latest book in her Big Shots series, Pitcher Perfect.
In the previous book, Dream Girl Drama [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] we got a scene where the Bearcats ended up in a brawl at a pick-up baseball game. In Pitcher Perfect [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM], we get another perspective on that brawl and the fallout.
Robbie Corrigan is a Bearcats rookie with a womanizing reputation. At the game, the first thing pitcher Skylar hears come out of his mouth is along those lines, and she isn’t a fan. But Robbie quickly becomes a big fan of her and makes a bet for a date, which of course, he wins, but he can tell her interest is elsewhere.
This leads to Robbie volunteering to be Skylar’s teammate for her family’s annual competition. Madden, the guy she’s interested in, will be there as her brother’s partner, so it’s the perfect time for Skylar to try to catch his eye by showing she’s desirable. Yes, we have a D1 pitcher fake dating a professional hockey player and giving her flirting lessons so she can try to win her brother’s best friend. Chef’s kiss.
Pitcher Perfect is such a delight. As a former D1 athlete myself, I totally understand Skylar and where she’s coming from. I really enjoyed how much of the athlete mentality and the desire to please her family that Tessa got right with Skylar. I wanted a little more depth from Robbie, and we got glimmers of it, but I feel like their third act issues could’ve carried a little more substance.
The spicy scenes live up to Tessa’s standards. I mean, you’ve got flirting lessons at her parents’ house, so if you think it’s not going to be a fun time, you’re mistaken. And there are several spicy scenes.
Overall, this is a great addition to the Big Shots series and I cannot wait for more. If the next one isn’t Madden’s story and called “Catching Feelings”, it’s a major missed opportunity, in my opinion. Don’t let me down, Tessa! Lol.
