If you’ve been around LiteraryHype for a while, you might be surprised to see a review for a kids book here since I don’t have kids. But this is a special book, and I couldn’t resist. My cousin is one of the authors!
A History of Fashion for Children [Buy Bookshop Amazon] is written by Celia Joicey and my cousin Dennis Nothdruft, with Rose Blake as the illustrator. As the title suggests, this book guides the reader through the looks and fabrics of the past. It’s organized in a way that you can skip around when reading, or just go through it all at once. I did the latter, and found it to be a quick and fun read. The blend of illustrations, including Carl Lagerfield’s dog reappearing throughout the book, as well as photographs brings the points to life.
I’m not the most fashionable of people (I know you’re suprised), so it was a lot of information I didn’t know before diving in. It’s thicker and has more words per page than I expected it to be since it’s a picture book, but I don’t see that as a downside. I wouldn’t recommend it for toddlers, but slightly older kids would probably enjoy it, especially if they are interested in fashion.
