Every once in a while I gotta throw a non-fiction book into the mix. Gotta keep me brain on its toes or whatever.
I picked up Healing the Wounds of Rejection by Joyce Meyer and Ginger Stache after chatting with Ginger about coming on the podcast. (Joyce is in her 80s and doesn’t really do much press anymore, so I knew she wouldn’t join for the chat.) It’s an important topic, especially in this digital age where we can get rejection from all over the place all the time.
In Healing the Wounds of Rejection [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM], Joyce and Ginger open up about their personal struggles with rejection, including Joyce’s sexual abuse as a child and Ginger finding out her husband had a porn addiction their entire marriage. They took different paths while processing their hurts, and want to help others get through it too.
This book doesn’t offer a straight ‘do this and all will be great’ plan, since healing takes different forms for each person. Instead, they offer insight and scriptures to guide the reader through it. If you’ve read any of Joyce’s books before, you might recognize many of the stories. However, adding Ginger into the mix brought some fresh takes and insight, which I appreciated and enjoyed.
While this is a faith-based book, I think anyone could read it. There are many Bible verses throughout, but you could skip over them if that’s not your jam. There’s still plenty of other useful information to check out.
