Once again, we return to the pages of Abby Jimenez to get our hearts smashed and healed all at the same time.
Say You’ll Remember Me [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] kicks us off with an absolutely delightful meet cute for Samanthan and Xavier. I’m not going to spill the deets because I want you to enjoy it for yourself, but I’ll just say Samantha has a new kitten with special needs and Xavier is a hot vet.
Following a bit of a challenge, they end up on a very loooong date, proving that Xavier just might be the most perfect man on earth in Samantha’s eyes. The only problem is, she’s leaving Minnesota for California in a matter of hours. Permanently. She’s moving back in with her parents, her sister, and her sister’s kid to help care for her mom, who has dementia. As much as she needs to focus on her family’s crisis, she can’t keep him out of her mind.
This is classic Abby Jiminez. It’s full of witty banter, hilarious shenanigans and situations, and of course, emotional depth. Abby often works mental health into her stories, and this time, she explores the stress of caregiving for an aging parent. I appreciated the conversation surrounding what it’s like to watch a loved one slip away to dementia since my grandmother suffered from it for years before she passed. It’s so hard to live through that and Abby captured it beautifully.
I read half of this book in physical format before remembering Matt Lanter voiced Xavier in the audiobook, so I switched it up. That was a solid life choice on my part, since I rather enjoy Matt’s voice (and once interviewed him when I was in news) and he did a great job with this book. Dual narration is so much better than single narration when you have two POVs.
Say You’ll Remember Me is an absolute delight and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in this new series.
