Rachel Lynn Solomon is one of those authors that’s hit or meh for me, mainly because her lead characters tend to be in media and the details are horribly inaccurate. My cross to bear, I know. All that to say I was a bit nervous about jumping into her newest romcom until I saw there wasn’t a media main character. Whew.
What Happens in Amsterdam [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] follows Dani from the US to Amsterdam when she loses her job due to ex-boyfriend drama and decides to take a job out of the US. Upon arriving in Amsterdam, she finds things are nothing like she expected. There are problems with her apartment and the job… well… it’s not going to last long.
While riding a bike that’s far too big for her tiny frame, she crashes into another biker…. who happens to be her first love. Wouter was an exchange student who lived with her family when she was a teenager, but then he ghosted her when he went home and she never really got over it. But due to a family rule, Wouter can’t inherit his family home until he gets married. Marrying Dani would help her out on the visa and place to live aspects, and allow him to take over ownership of the house. Seems like a win-win.
Overall, this is a cute lil romance. Some of the flubs they have to deal with are funny, even if they might be a smidge far fetched. The plot felt like it was moving pretty slow throughout the story. Lack of communication tends to do that for me though. Just freakin’ talk already knuckleheads. Lol. This is probably my favorite of her books since The Ex-Talk [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM], which stands high above as my number one pick for her.
