As a delulu and slightly feral K-pop fan, I natually love a good celebrity romance novel. While that interest leans more fan-musician for obvious reasons, I still won’t hesitate if the story involves two celebrities.
That’s what led to picking up For One Night Only by Jessica James. [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM]. Valerie was the lead singer of a band called GlitterBats back in the day, but they broke up several years ago. Now, she’s on a TV show and needing some good press to make up for a publicity snafu and hopefully convince the executives to renew the show. Val hatches a little plan to bring back her old band to make people like her again.
Enter Caleb. They were secretly dating during their run as GlitterBats, but since walking away, he’s been enjoying a normal life. He blew through his music money, and now works as a teacher… and that’s how he likes it. He just wishes he had a little more money to help his sister out. That’s the only reason he joins the GlitterBats reunion concert.
It definitely doesn’t have anything to do with still being in love with Val. Nope. And when the idea of fake dating comes up to help with the press, he definitely only agrees because it’s useful. Still not anything to do with feelings.
Overall, this is a fun second chance x fake dating celebrity romance. However, some parts of the story felt underdeveloped. The TV company is “The Network” and their music label is “The Label”, which felt lazy to me and annoyed me every time they were referenced. Some of the characters also felt underdeveloped, which makes me a little nervous about book two coming.
