2025 is jam-packed with great book releases, and one I was excited for in January was Temple of Swoon by Jo Segura, because her debut Raiders of the Lost Heart [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] was a fun archaology romance and I was eager for more.
In Temple of Swoon [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM], we meet Miri as she’s missing the bus to an archaeological search and drops her snacks. Her Pringles can rolls into a very fine man who also just missed the bus. The split a cab since they are heading to the same city, only to find they are also staying at the same hotel… and heading out on the same top secret project. Corrie and Ford from book one are supposed to be leading it, an injury leaves them sidelined at home and surprising Miri with her first shot at leading a trip.
But what she doesn’t know, is that Rafa has some major secrets and there are some baddies trying to stop her from succeeding… by all means necessary.
I loved how quirky Miri is and how much Rafa likes her for it. As a fellow quirky person, finding someone who likes your bizzaro-ness is quite nice. I also love the Indiana Jones vibes and how fierce Miri is once she sets her mind to a task. However, I didn’t love how much of it felt the same as book one. There were so many plot similarities that I got frustrated. Basically, it was kinda cute, kinda predictable.
