A new Christina Lauren book, you say? I know you’re suprised to find me reviewing a book by them. JK. I’m incredibly predictable. When I heard the fabulous writing duo of Christina and Lauren were writing a contemporary Tangled retelling, I was so in.
Tangled Up In You [By Bookshop Amazon] changes up some details from Rapunzel/Tangled, but there are also plenty of Easter Eggs for the fans. In this story, Ren is leaving her family farm for the first time. She’s lived off the grid for her whole life, but finally, at 22 years old, talked her parents into letting her go to college. She’s never been in a classroom before and taught herself everything she could learn. Her parents gave her strict rules for while she’s at college, including never leaving campus and definitely not spending time with boys.
Ren meets Fitz when he’s giving her a tour of the school, but he ends up in one of her classes. Some things happen and she gets a little bit of blackmail on him, which she uses to get him to take her on a trip. I’ll let you find out what the trip is about on your own.
This book is so dang good. It kept me up until 1:30 a.m., racing through the pages. I love the twist on the story and how CLo crafted a way to create a secluded tower of sorts that would work in a modern setting. Although, I feel like I must say, as a homeschool graduate, not all homeschoolers are that isolated and unsure of how to act around people. The curiosity though…. that’s is relatively universal from my experience.
The relationship between Fitz and Ren is so sweet. CLo really captured Rapunzel and Flynn in these two modernized characters. There is so much care in how they get to know each other and slide into romance. It’s perfection as only CLo can deliver.
