Book Review: “Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice” by Elle Cosimano

If you haven’t read any of the first three books in the Finlay Donovan series by Elle Cosimano, this is your fair warning to bookmark this page and come back when you’re caught up. Elle loves to pick up books directly following the chaotic end of the one before, so this will include some spoilers.

You have been warned.

Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] finds Finlay and Vero trying to head out of town on a girls trip… which is actually a cover so they can attempt to make a deal with a loan shark who may or may not have taken Vero’s man, but it’s the best they’ve got. Unfortunately, Finlay’s family won’t let her go quietly. Her ex, her mom, and the kids are all along for the adventure too, making it very difficult for Vero and Finlay to get out and do what they need to do.

Which, somehow, involves Vero babysitting two dead bodies in a hotel bathtub full of ice… for days.

I could go more into the setup, but it’s all tangled together with characters and pieces of the previous books, which would take entirely too much time and typing. Just trust that hot cop Nick, Finlay’s sister, and more cops show up to make things even more complicated… and maybe a little bit steamy. This book is wild and so much fun.

I thoroughly enjoyed Finlay Donovan Rolls the Dice. It’s the classic blend of mystery, romance, humor, and wtf that we’ve come to enjoy from this series. I am pretty sure I like this better than the last two, but maybe not as much as the first one. Finlay Donovan Is Killing It [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] is a masterpiece and needs no notes.

I am ready to get my hands on book five, Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] as soon as possible!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
