When Tessa Bailey announced she was diving into the world of sports romance, I was pretty pumped. Then she said the first one would be golf, and I got a little bit nervous. Golf isn’t exactly the sport you think of when you think of romance, but she told me to trust her and gave me an advanced copy after moderating her panel at NYCC… so I did.
Fangirl Down [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] introduces us to Josephine and Wells. Josephine owns her family’s golf pro shop in Florida. She’s the #1 fan of PGA golfer Wells Whitaker, and she’s pretty much his last fan standing. He’s lost his touch and his bad attitude doesn’t do any favors for him. Josephine wins a lunch and lesson with him, but he blows her off. A few days later, a hurricane damages her shop. For some reason, he rushes to check on her and finds she’s in a bigger mess than he expected.
The only logical thing to do is offer her a job as his caddie to help her out.
It has nothing to do with her being hot. Nope. Nothing at all.
I’m pretty sure this was my first Tessa book with a redeheaded female main character, and I am here for it. Her sassy, quippy writing style works well for a redhead and I thoroughly enjoyed the banter.
I also really enjoyed that Tessa gave us a main character with Type 1 Diabetes. It’s something that’s close to Tessa’s heart since her daughter has it. She handles it with care and depth that only someone close to it could deliver. It really adds a great emotional level to the story.
If you love a classic Grumpy x Sunshine spice-fest, this is the book for you. (Because, yes, the spice is delightful!) This is definitely my favorite Tessa book in a long time. I read this so fast and cannot wait to see where the rest of the Big Shots series takes us, with The Au Pair Affair [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] coming in July 2024.
