Another day, another Tessa Bailey book is fresh on the shelves. I swear, the woman is next level machinery.
Wreck The Halls [Buy Bookshop Amazon LibroFM] is Tessa’s newest Christmas romance novel and it has such a fun premise. Beat and Melody’s mothers were in a band together 30 years ago. The band had an ugly split and the two kids only saw each other once in that time, but it left an impression. Now, they are being offered a million dollars each to get their moms back on stage together on Christmas Eve. Oh, and the whole thing is being livestreamed. They don’t think it’s going to be such a big deal, but their developing chemistry is drawing an audience all for themselves.
I love me some Tessa Bailey, but this one isn’t quite on the level I’m used to from her. That’s not to say it’s bad at all. It’s just missing something. There’s the mystery of why the band broke up in the first place, the intrigue of their personal issues coming to haunt them, and plenty of delightful banter. I don’t know why this one doesn’t feel as fully-formed as usual, but it could just be me. Or maybe, Beat’s hold up didn’t quite feel sensical to me. Who knows?
If you’re looking for a fluffier, Christmas version of Daisy Jones and The Six [Buy Bookshop Amazon], but with spice and a lot less drugs, then Wreck the Halls is the answer you’re looking for.
