Audiobook Review: “The Honeymoon Crashers” by Christina Lauren

This is basically a Christina Lauren stan account since these two wonderful women have failed to let me down yet. When I heard they were releasing a followup to The Unhoneymooners [Buy Amazon LibroFM], I was ecstatic. When I learned that it would be audio-only, with Henry Shum Jr. as one of the voices… I was even more thrilled.

In The Unhoneymooners, Olive ends up falling for the brother of her twin sister Ami’s husband during the twin’s honeymoon (due to some unfortunate circumstances). Now, it’s been a couple years since that mess. Olive and Ethan are getting married themselves, but announce that they will be eloping to Maui. It’s partially to spare Ami the trouble of having to see her now-ex-husband at the ceremony. Ami and their cousin Diego decide that this simply will not do, so they round up as many family members as possible to make the last minute trip to Maui to surprise Olive by planning her wedding. Olive and Ethan are relieved, but there’s a catch. They want Ami to allow Ethan’s childhood friend Brody to help plan the wedding… and Ami is not interested in the help… even if he’s hot.

I normally listen to audiobooks at 1.75-2x speed, because that’s just how my brain works. It’s gotta be moving or I will zone out and never come back. This one, I slowed down to 1.5 speed to enjoy the performance of it. The Honeymoon Crashers has a full voice cast and some special effects, giving it that old timey radio show vibe. It’s funny on its own, but hearing the laughter really brings an added bounce to the story vibe.

This is a great listen, especially if you’re making a road trip. It’s only 5 hours at 1x speed, so you can easily enjoy this in a day. It’s such a fun little peek into the characters’ lives.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
