I really enjoyed Erin Hahn‘s last book Never Saw You Coming, so I was really excited to get my hands on her latest literary achievement and adult romance debut, Built To Last. It did not disappoint.
Built To Last is a dual perspective, second chance romance. (Second chance was my accidental official trope of October. Lol). Shelby and Cameron were child actors on a tv show. They grew up together on screen and were in love with each other in real life. That part just wasn’t communicated well. So when Cameron left the show, Shelby ended up dating the star of the show, Lyle. But Lyle was a cheating dirtbag and that blew up in her face.
Now, several years later, Lyle brings Shelby and Cameron together again for a TV pilot. Shelby had left Hollywood behind to flip homes with her dad, and there was an effort to make it into a reality show. Her dad wasn’t quite a natural on camera, so Lyle blindsided Shelby by adding Cameron into the mix. He throws all kinds of challenges at them for his own twisted reasons, which you find out along the way.
This reads like an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition love story and I am so here for it. It’s sweet and dramatic, which we love to see in a romance novel. There is a smidge of spice, but not much. Do with that what you will, readers.
I really enjoyed Built To Last and flew through it. I had been struggling to focus and this was one I could stay hooked with during that time, which says a lot.
