Carlos and Alexa Penavega Ask “What If Love Is The Point?”

Ok, y’all. Buckle up. I was not prepared for What If Love Is The Point?. It’s a memoir/Christian life book from Carlos and Alexa Penavega, and I was not expecting an actress best known for “Spy Kids” and a guy from “Big Time Rush” to come that hard, but dang, they did.

Carlos (aka Los) and Alexa (aka Lex) each write chapters about their own life and journey before they met, as well as their different takes on certain situations. They are honest and vulnerable with their stories in ways I wasn’t expecting from a Christian book. It’s not every day that they include the drinking and drug references. It also surprised me how purposeful they were in keeping faith woven through the whole story, which isn’t exactly common for celebrity memoirs.

The writing was pretty conversational, making it a quick read. They were funny at times, like the story of when they met, and gave dark times, like depression, eating disorders, and divorce, a proper weight. They didn’t dwell on the bad, but rather showed how the tough times shaped the life they are now living together as a married couple.

Overall, I’d say What If Love Is The Point was a solid read. It flew by and eventually made me want to move to Hawaii to hang out with them. Lol.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
