I picked up a free E-ARC of A Merry Little Meet Cute by Julie Murphy and Sierra Simone through Edelweiss back in August as part of my Hype TBR game on Youtube. It was the book I picked semi-blindly for the forced proximity prompt, and I am so glad I read it.
This book will probably offend some people, so if you’re gonna feel some type of way about mentioning a porn star, I’ll catch ya next time, ok?
That being said… A Merry Little Meet Cute is about a porn star named Bee who is trying to get into other forms of entertainment. A producer she works with is also trying to break into clean entertainment with a separate company he owns, and makes a deal with the Hope Channel for a Christmas movie. His folders get mixed up and Bee gets cast as the star when the original pick gets sick, but she’s under strict orders to keep her work as Bianca a secret.
She flies to Vermont to film at the last minute, and finds her co-star is none other than Nolan Shaw… the boy band baddie she’s had a crush on for 10 years. Nolan is also trying to fix his reputation and at least appear cleaned up from an Olympic debacle. It’s all in order to take care of his mom and sister after his dad died. But, his efforts to behave are challenged when he sees that his new co-star is his favorite porn star.
So, in short, they both have secrets tying them to good behavior and have held a candle for each other long before this squeaky clean movie came about. Good behavior is too hard and would make for a boring story, so things get pretty messy in their two-week shoot.
I was thoroughly entertained by A Merry Little Meet Cute. It’s definitely spicy, but also heavy on the hilarious parts. (Just wait until you read the names of the horses they ride on set!) As someone who lived in Kansas City, I appreciate that Nolan is from there and also knows his way around a Z-Man because that BBQ debate is wonderful. This book also has a sweet side to it, as one would expect from a rom-com. It’s also a very diverse book, with a slew of representation including LGBTQ+, plus sized, and mental health.
So, if you’re up for a hilarious, filthy ride full of Christmas spirit, A Merry Little Meet Cute is the easy choice.
