Susan Lee’s “Seoulmates”

Yes, there are two books releasing in 2022 with the name Seoulmates and yes, I read them both. Getting Jen Frederick’s book confused with this one is actually how I ended up meeting the author, Susan Lee… but that’s a story for another day.

Today, we are talking about this adorable YA childhood friends to lovers story from Susan, and I am so excited for you to get your hands on it.

Seoulmates is a dual POV novel, following Hannah and Jacob. They were best friends growing up in San Diego until Jacob’s dad died. He and his mom and sister went to South Korea for the funeral, but never came back. Hannah felt abandoned and basically cut him off to ignore the pain. But now, Jacob and his family are coming back to California after three years to stay with Hannah for the summer… and she’s less than pleased.

Jacob’s return kinda gets in the way of her plan to win back her boyfriend. He broke up with her because even though Hannah is Korean, she’s not into K-Dramas and K-pop. But, when Jacob shows up at lifeguard camp, Hannah learns that Jacob is now an actor in a popular K-Drama and all her friends want to hang out with him.

Meanwhile, Jacob has his own issues he’s working through, including an injured ankle, a terrible co-star, and all the pressures from the studio. His trip to the U.S. is supposed to be a time of recovery and staying out of the spotlight while some other *issues* are handled, but his feelings for Hannah take over.

Seoulmates is such a sweet story. It’s written so well, it doesn’t really feel like reading. I got lost in it way too many times (in a good way). I loved all the K-pop and K-drama references woven through the story, so this book is definitely for any ARMYs, Carats, Blinks, etc. out there. It’s just cute and fun and I loved it so dang much.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

PS. I was really entertained by the ties of Jen Frederick’s books being Heart and Seoul and Seoulmates, while the show Jacob works on in Susan Lee’s Seoulmates is called “Heart and Seoul”. Lol.
