Emily Henry and “Book Lovers”

I don’t usually get into something with a lot of hype… but here I am. I haven’t read Emily Henry‘s prior books as of this writing, but the sign calling Book Lovers “Schitt’s Creek for book people” intrigued me and I gave it a shot.

Welp, I ended up enjoying Book Lovers a lot more than I expected.

Nora is a literary agent who’s been on the flip side of too many Hallmark movie-style moments where her guy goes off to a small town and stays for someone there. She’s accepted that role and decided she’s not going to find anyone for herself, so why try? Her business nemesis is an editor named Charlie, who she’s disliked since he hated on her client’s book’s setting during a meeting years ago.

Nora and her sister go on a trip to the small town where that book is set (after it becomes a smash hit) before Libby’s third baby arrives. Libby makes a list for Nora, including date locals and save a business. But then Nora stumbles into Charlie (literally) and flips everything on its head.

Overall, I enjoyed Book Lovers quite a bit. Libby’s constant use of “sissy” as a grown adult was irritating and it really has nothing in common with Schitt’s Creek aside from being in a small town. However, once I accepted those things, it was a quick, fun read.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
