Book Review: “Spy x Family: Volume 14” by Tatsuya Endo

I don’t know why I haven’t been writing up proper reviews for manga and manhwa, so here I am, jumping in with a review that’s current to the series. Oops. If you haven’t read the previous books, might want to skip this until you are caught up. I highly recommend catching up on this series because it is my most favorite manga.

When we join Spy x Family: Volume 14 [Buy Bookshop Amazon], we find precious little Anya in a mad dash to see the test rankings. Well, everyone else is rushing and she’s sauntering along because she knows where she ranks in one class. But, another class ranking might prove to be a bit more problematic for our little ball of chaos. This leads to a family vacation as a reward, that doesn’t go as planned.

My favorite section of this volume is the school dance. It’s full of classic Anya and Damian antics, competitive spirit, and sweetness. I would love to be a fly on the wall watching the girls fight for a dance with Damian, and Loid undercover trying to help Anya in the name of world peace. It’s perfection.

That dance sets up the next couple chapters, which is a flashback for Mr. Henderson and Becky’s bodyguard, Martha. This is the heaviest part of the volume, by far, as we see Mr. Henderson and Martha in their youth, falling in love but not expressing it, and then being torn apart by war. I love this historical fiction vibes of the flashback sections, but I do miss Anya a bit as well.

I cannot wait for the next volume!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
